Tokyo, Part 1 - Getting There

Alex surprised me with a quick getaway to Japan for my birthday last week.  It's unreal - I've always wanted to go - and we spent 4 whirlwind days in Tokyo.  The city is amazing and I hated coming back, though I have a ton to talk about now.

Hashtag airplane style, please alert Who What Wear.  We took a nonstop 12hr flight from LAX at midnight Tuesday.

I'm going for most embarrassing person of the flight here.

I like to wash my face and brush my teeth before long flights, which looks strange in an airport bathroom but makes it a lot easier for me to fall asleep.  I also keep a pack at my seat:

  • Glossier Balm Dotcom
  • Yu-be hand cream
  • Glossier Super Bounce serum
  • Dr. Jart brightening sheet mask
  • Bliss That's Incredi-peel
  • Mentholatum

I'm kind of constantly applying creams, it's really cool and lowkey which is exactly the kind of girl I am.

We checked into a love hotel in Shinjuku as soon as we got in to nap and shower. I was really excited to dress more creatively in Tokyo aka add a scarf to every outfit.

We stayed in a traditional Japanese apartment, complete with tatami mats and paper shades.  It was so nice to pretend like we lived there.

Our first night we visited a tiny izayaka and the other two patrons bought me chilled Franzia for my birthday and we all tried to communicate through Google Translate.  It was the best wine I've ever had.

Afterwards I learned Ben & Jerry are holding out on Americans.

Lots more to come!
